    Contenuti

    Il corso mira ad una comprensione globale dei processi e degli avvenimenti di età contemporanea con particolare attenzione al Novecento. Il programma di studio affronterà non solo il profilo dell’importante dimensione politica ma anche delle dinamiche economiche e socioculturali che percorrono i due secoli dell'età contemporanea.
    Dimensione evenimenziale ed interpretativa avranno pari spazio all'interno delle lezioni per fornire strumenti essenziali per la comprensione delle dinamiche di età contemporanea.
    Obiettivo del corso è anche fornire un approfondimento su almeno uno dei principali nodi tematici del XX secolo attraverso un modulo dedicato e lo studio di uno dei testi in bibliografia.

    Obiettivi formativi

    Lo studente deve acquisire competenze di orientamento temporale e geografico in cui collocare le vicende oggetto del programma. Deve inoltre dimostrare una conoscenza da sufficiente a più che sufficiente degli argomenti indicati in programma; dovrà inoltre dimostrare di avere capacità di comprendere la materia attraverso un accurato utilizzo dei concetti chiave e del linguaggio storico. Dovrà dimostrate di saper mettere in connessione avvenimenti e processi secondo una logica di causa/ effetto e orientarsi con sicurezza nelle coordinate spazio temporali. Dovrà raggiungere un livello sufficiente di espressione delle proprie competenze.
    Lo studente dovrà aver consolidato il livello di base previsto al punto precedente e utilizzarle per costruire un discorso critico che vada al di là della semplice collocazione spazio- temporale degli avvenimenti e di una sufficiente conoscenza degli argomenti in programma. Dovrà dimostrare di saper elaborare idee autonome ed originali utilizzando le competenze sviluppate nell’ apprendimento della materia.
    Lo studente che abbia sviluppato con profitto le capacità di comprensione applicata deve essere in grado di costruire su di esse un pensiero originale ed interpretativo con riferimenti appropriati alle principali interpretazioni storiografiche dei temi oggetto del programma.
    Si intendono raggiunte con profitto le abilità comunicative in materia storica quando lo studente sappia comunicare con chiarezza e proprietà di linguaggio le proprie competenze. In particolare, chiari e pertinenti devono essere l’utilizzo delle parole- chiave apprese durante il corso e del linguaggio storiografico.
    Lo studente raggiungerà un ottimo livello degli argomenti oggetto del programma e avrà sviluppato le competenze necessarie per utilizzare il sapere storico in contesti multidisciplinari e negli studi successivi. Lo studente dovrà inoltre raggiungere un alto grado di autonomia nello studio e nelle abilità comunicative.

    Prerequisiti

    Non ci sono propedeuticità ma è consigliato seguire il modulo di storia moderna.

    Metodologie didattiche

    Lezioni frontali, esercitazioni e prove intercorso per gli studenti frequentanti.
    Lezioni frontali, esercitazioni . Gli studenti frequentanti potranno dividere il programma in due prove con appello anticipato da concordarsi alla fine dello svolgimento delle lezioni.
    Il calendario delle lezioni frontali seguirà approssimativamente la seguente ripartizione:
    • Parte I: Ottocento, processi di trasformazione e linee interpretative. Novecento: dalla prima alla seconda guerra mondiale e le ragioni di un secolo breve.
    • Parte II: Il secondo Novecento : dal confronto bipolare al mondo senza centro; aspetti e dinamiche di una storia in evoluzione.
    • Parte III: Monografia proposta per l’a.a.2019- 2020: IL CROLLO. La crisi del comunismo e la fine della Germania Est,

    Metodi di valutazione

    L'esame finale del presente modulo di insegnamento per i frequentanti è composto da due prova intercorso scritte integrabili da un colloquio orale o, a scelta dello studente, da un colloquio orale sull’intero programma.
    Le prove scritte intercorso consistono in una serie di domande a risposta aperta, una cronologia e un esercizio di definizione di parole chiave del linguaggio storico. Test preparatori verranno forniti durante il corso.
    Durante le prove scritte non è consentito consultare materiali didattici, atlanti o prontuari.
    Per i non frequentanti è previsto un colloquio orale sul programma di studi comprendente la parte generale e la parte monografica.
    La maggior parte della valutazione è orientata ad una buona preparazione di base della dimensione fattuale ed interpretativa dell'età contemporanea.
    La valutazione della parte monografica, invece, servirà prevalentemente ad approfondire il livello di preparazione del candidato e ad orientare definitivamente il voto.
    Il punteggio della prova d’esame è attribuito in trentesimi.

    Agli studenti frequentanti verrà fornito durante il corso materiale di supporto integrativo o sostitutivo del presente programma.
    Particolare attenzione si presterà all’utilizzo e all’interpretazione di cartine geopolitiche e di letture interpretative.
    Durante il corso è possibile avvalersi del supporto del tutor per gruppi di studio ed esercitazioni.

    - Il nuovo secolo e la prima guerra mondiale ( gli inizi del XX secolo; l’età giolittiana in Italia; prima guerra mondiale; rivoluzione russa)
    - L’avvento del totalitarismo e il nuovo conflitto mondiale ( gli incerti equilibri della pace; gli anni ’20 e il nuovo equilibrio internazionale; il fascismo; gli anni ’30 e la svolta totalitaria; la seconda guerra mondiale)
    - Il mondo nell’era atomica ( dopoguerra; formazione dei blocchi e decolonizzazione; l’emergere di nuovi soggetti politici: il terzo mondo; l’Italia repubblicana)

    This basic teaching of contemporary history aims to have a sufficient knowledge of the centuries that make up the contemporary age: the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. During the lessons the main political, economic and social themes of the processes developed in the two centuries will be addressed. Particular attention will be focused on twentieth-century dynamics.
    Main topics of interest will be:
    - The Age of Empires (1875-1905)
    - Mass war and revolution (1905-20)
    - Nations and nationalisms (1920-1945)
    - The planetary comparison (1947- 1973)
    - Multicentrism and globalization (1973- our days)

    Course objectives

    The main objective of the course is to have a global knowledge of the contemporary period with particular attention to the twentieth century. The study program will address not only the profile of the important political dimension but also the economic and socio-cultural dynamics that run through the two centuries of the contemporary age.
    An eventual and interpretative dimension will have equal space within the lessons to provide essential tools for understanding the dynamics of the contemporary age.
    The aim of the course is also to provide an in-depth analysis of at least one of the main themes of the 20th century through a dedicated module and the study of one of the texts in the bibliography
    Knowledge and understanding (knowledge and understanding).
    The student must acquire skills of temporal and geographical orientation in which to place the events covered by the program. He must also demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the topics indicated in the program; he must also demonstrate that he has the capacity to understand the subject through an accurate use of the key concepts and of the historical language. He must be shown to be able to connect events and processes according to a logic of cause / effect and to orient himself with certainty in the space-time coordinates. He will have to reach a sufficient level of expression of his skills.
    Applied knowledge and understanding (applied knowledge and understanding).
    The student must have consolidated the basic level foreseen in the previous point and use them to construct a critical discourse that goes beyond the simple space-time location of the events and a sufficient knowledge of the topics in the program. He will have to demonstrate the ability to develop autonomous and original ideas using the skills developed in learning the subject.
    Making judgments.
     The student who has successfully developed the skills of applied understanding must be able to build on them an original and interpretative thought with appropriate references to the main historiographical interpretations of the themes covered by the program.

    Communication skills (communication skills).
    Communication skills in the historical field are understood to be profitable when the student knows how to communicate his or her skills clearly and with language properties. In particular, the use of the key words learned during the course and of the historiographical language must be clear and relevant.

    Learning skills (learning skills).
    The student will reach an excellent level of the topics covered by the program and will have developed the skills necessary to use historical knowledge in multidisciplinary contexts and in subsequent studies. The student will also need to achieve a high degree of autonomy in study and communication skills.

    Prerequisites

    There are no prerequisites but it is recommended to follow modern history module.

    Teaching methods

    Lectures, exercises. Attending students will be able to divide the program into two tests with an early appeal to be agreed at the end of the lessons.
      The calendar of lectures will follow approximately the following breakdown:
    • Part I: Nineteenth century, transformation processes and interpretative lines. Novecento: from the first to the second world war and the reasons of a short century.
    • Part II: The Second Twentieth Century: from the bipolar confrontation to the world without a center; aspects and dynamics of an evolving story.
    • Part III: Monography proposed for the academic year 2019-20: IL CROLLO. The crisis of communism and the end of East Germany

    Evaluation methods

    he final exam of the present teaching module for attending students is composed of two written tests that can be completed with an oral interview or, at the student's choice, an oral interview on the entire program.
    The written exams consist of a series of open-ended questions, a chronology and an exercise in defining keywords of historical language. Preparatory tests will be provided during the course.
    During the written tests it is not allowed to consult teaching materials, atlases or handbooks.
    For non-attending students there will be an oral interview on the curriculum including the general part and the monographic part.
    Most of the evaluation is oriented towards a good basic preparation of the factual and interpretative dimension of the contemporary age.
    The evaluation of the monographic part, instead, will serve mainly to deepen the level of preparation of the candidate and to definitively orient the vote.

    Other information

    It can be usefull to add a historical atlas to the manuals with geopolitical and thematic maps.
    Attending students will be provided during the supplementary or replacement course material of this program.
    Particular attention will be paid to the use and interpretation of geopolitical maps and interpretative readings.
    During the course it is possible to take advantage of the tutor's support for study groups and exercises.


    It is possible to agree on receipt by appointment on days and times other than those indicated.

    - The democratization of politics and the mass society
    - The new century and the first world war (the beginning of the twentieth century; the Giolittian age in Italy; first world war; Russian revolution)
    - The advent of totalitarianism and the new world conflict (the uncertain balance of peace; the 1920s and the new international balance; fascism; the 30s and the totalitarian turning point; the second world war)
    - The world in the atomic age (post-war; blockade and decolonization; the emergence of new political subjects: the third world; republican Italy)
    - The contemporary world (east-west confrontation; balances between powers and crisis areas; the rise of Europe; the western world between recession and neoliberalism; Italy from the center-left to the crisis of the political system)
    - The end of the blocs and the end-of-century crisis (collapse of communism; crisis of the international system; new wars; globalization)

    In the hours dedicated to tutoring it will be possible to carry out preparatory exercises for the final exam.
